Zimba - our male dog

It is with the deepest of sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved dog Zimba.
After a long illness, Zimba, who gave us 13 years of unconditional love and friendship, was put to sleep on Tuesday 4th May 2010.
We have lost a very significant part of our life and we could not have asked for a more genuine friend than Zimba - he meant a great deal to us.
The passing of Zimba is one of the most heart wrenching, traumatic, and emotionally devastating experiences we have ever been through. He will be truly missed.
We are truly thankful that he had been able to enjoy part of the trip around Australia with us. He and Sasha had an absolute ball.

Mt Roland / Lake Barrington - Near Sheffield

Mt Roland dominates the North West coastal sky line. It is often snow capped in winter with mist and fog clinging to the rugged peaks of dolerite and the valleys below to create a photographer’s paradise. Lush, fertile farms form a quilted patchwork of agricultural colours from the peaks above. Lake Barrington is a man-made Hydro Tasmania lake in North West Tasmania’s Forth Valley. It was formed in 1969 with the construction of the 84 metre high Devils Gate Dam on the Forth River. The Lake is 45 minutes drive south of Devonport (40 kilometres). The Lake is best known for its 2,000 metre, eight-lane international-standard rowing course, used for rowing, canoeing and water skiing competitions.

The original Coles Store, Wilmot Tasmania

The original Coles Store is an historic shop, which is located in Wilmot, North West Tasmania. The Coles family operated the shop from 1910-1921. The original Coles Store was Australia’s first permanent Coles retail store, and the forebear of Australian retailing giant, the Coles-Myer chain. The Original Coles Store has escaped development over the years and much of the building and fittings have been preserved.

Mushrooming at Beulah, Tas

While staying at my cousin's farm in Beulah, we decided to live off the land and harvest some mushrooms. Mushrooms on toast, mushrooms on steak...all very beautiful. Needless to say, we did not eat the toadstool in the last photo.

Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart is the second oldest capital city in Australia and dates back to 1804. The city is a very picturesque and charming city and is nestled below Mt Wellington and overlooks the Derwent River. The city provides beautiful scenic views and is steeped in convict history and very old convict built buildings. There are also many popular tourist sites to explore within close proximity to the city.

Camping at Moulting Bay, Tas

We went camping at Moulting Bay and had a great time catching up with our friends. We sat down and had a sumptuous dinner on our last night. As for the tenting experience, there is no substitute for the caravan. We both felt the cold during the night through the paper-thin tent walls.
