Bruny Island

After an exhilarating boat cruise, we decided to do a land tour of both north and south Bruny Island. We even decided to take the back roads and do a 4WD trip from west to east. The road was extremely rough and slippery. We had to drive around fallen trees and branches, which, on occasion, covered half the road. After completing the epic 4WD component on the journey, we proceeded down the unsealed roads. Quite a relief for Rani I think.

Bruny Island boat cruise

We decided to treat ourselves to a boat cruise. The cruise departed from Adventure Bay, South Bruny Island and proceeded down the rugged coastline to the bottom of the island where the Tasman Sea meets the Southern Ocean. Some exceptionally beautiful and rugged coastline greeted us around every corner. We saw the highest sea cliffs in Australia and many sea caves, and fur seals were in abundance.

Port Arthur

Just a small example of the old convict ruins at Port Arthur.
Port Arthur is a small town and former convict settlement on the Tasman Peninsula, in Tasmania. Known for its extremely harsh conditions, it was the destination for the hardest of convicted British and Irish criminals. Many were brutally beaton for minor infringements. Male prisoners as young as 9 years old were imprisoned here at Port Arthur in a separate facility.

Port Arthur Trip

Some photos of the magnificent coastline surrounding the Port Arthur area.

Snug Falls, Sung

After a 45 minute walk through a rain forest, we finally arrived at our destination - Sung Falls.

Mt Wellington, Hobart, Tas.

While the views were very good, the extreme cold and windy conditions put a slight damper on the overall experience. Still worth the trip though, even though we were almost blown off the top of the mountain.

Cascade Brewery, Hobart, Tas.

The Cascade Brewery is situated on the fringe of Hobart, below Mt Wellington and is surrounded by beautiful gardens and views of the mountain. It also has an excellent restaurant, which offers reasonably priced meals. All this, together with some great beers, made it an interesting and enjoyable afternoon.
