Crossing the East Alligator River, Arnhem Land, NT

The East Alligator River is located on the border between Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land and is home to unique flora and fauna, including saltwater crocodiles. Cahill's Crossing, over the fast flowing East Alligator River, is the only way to get from Kakadu to Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) in West Arnhem Land. Over the years, many vehicles have been washed off Cahills Crossing and many people have been taken by enormous salt water crocodiles that live there. It is a very dangerous place for the unwary. The crossing of this river should only be attempted at a relatively low tide.
